Dr. Ances is an associate professor of Neurology, Radiology, and Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in Saint Louis (WUSTL). He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) and obtained a MSc. in Health Planning and Finance from London School of Economics (LSE). He went back to the Penn and obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. He completed his neurology residency at Penn and a NeuroAIDS fellowship at the University of California San Diego (UCSD).
Dr. Ances has received numerous awards including the Eric C. Raps Memorial Prize for excellence in Clinical Neurology, the Arthur Asbury Neurology Resident Award, the Penn Pearl Award, Universitywide AIDS Research Program of California Award, the American Federation for AIDS Research (amFAR) Fellowship Award, Dana Foundation Brain Immuno-Imaging Scholar, the Alzheimer’s Association New Investigator Award, Kopolow Award for Excellence in Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology at WUSTL, and the Penn MD/ PhD Alumni Award.
Research in his laboratory focuses on development of novel neuroimaging biomarkers in NeuroAIDS. His lab also studies other neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Creutzfeldt- Jacob disease (CJD), and paraneoplastic disorders. He is the recipient of multiple R01 awards from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and reviews for NIH.
