Ken Kunisaki, M.D.

Dr. Kunisaki is a respiratory physician, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, and a Staff Physician at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Dr. Kunisaki completed medical school at The Ohio State University, followed by training at the University of Minnesota that included a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, a fellowship in Adult Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and a MS degree in Clinical Research.

His academic research work is focused on clinical trials and observational studies in lung disease and sleep disorders, with a particular interest in HIV-associated lung and sleep health. He was Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded Pulmonary Substudy of the START randomized trial of immediate vs deferred ART initiation and he is currently PI of the NIH-funded Sleep Substudy in the POPPY cohort, a UK-based observational cohort addressing comorbidities of aging with HIV.
